We need to make sure that all our resources are used to deliver benefits for people in Wales, rather than contributing to landfill and costing money to dispose of them.

Using resources more sustainably will also help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3% per year, achieving at least a 40% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2020.

The Welsh Government is working to prevent waste, divert waste from landfill by increasing recycling, composting and anaerobic digestion, and reduce emissions from existing landfill sites. The Welsh Government’s waste strategy: Towards Zero Waste sets out our policy aims and targets for 2010 to 2050.

Recycling your waste

Recycling has a positive impact on the environment and benefits the economy. You can make a difference, whether you already recycle and want to do more, or would like to start recycling.

Reduce and re-use to minimise waste

Reducing the amount of waste you create by the way you buy and use items, including by reusing, refurbishing and buying products that are designed to last, can all help prevent unnecessary waste going to landfill.

What happens to your waste?

Most of the waste we produce can be recycled into something new, and we can all reduce the amount of waste we produce.

Resource Efficient Wales Programmes

The Welsh Government has set up a number of programmes to help support you, your community or business become more resource efficient.
